In 2002 the new Seixalinho River Terminal was inaugurated, more than 2 km from the city, ensuring the continuity of the Lisbon-Montijo crossing. The choice of locating this equipment was the subject of a controversial discussion that has not yet been agreed upon in Montijense society.
